How it works

How to check your references

  1. 1 · Paste your reference list

Copy it from the References section at the end of your paper, one reference per line, up to 80 at a time.

  2. 2 · Review the split

After you click verify, check each item, remove anything that is not a reference, then confirm.

  3. 3 · Read the results

Verified: the title, authors and year match the record we found. Mismatch: we found a candidate record, but some details differ, so first confirm it is the same work. Not Found: this search found no sufficiently matching record, so check it manually.

Paste references like this · click to try

APA, MLA, GB/T 7714, Vancouver and other common styles are recognized. References with a DOI are checked more accurately.

Please don't paste

  • Paragraphs of body text, such as an argument or an abstract
  • In-text citations such as (Smith et al., 2023): an author and year alone cannot be checked
  • Headings or instructions, such as "References" or "check these for me"

FAQ

Common questions

Why does a reference show "Not Found"?

We search academic databases such as OpenAlex, Crossref, Google Scholar and WanFang. "Not Found" means this search returned no sufficiently matching record. The details may be wrong, it may not be a journal or conference paper (for example a web page, report or regulation), or the databases may not index it yet. Check it against the original source.

What does "Mismatch" mean?

We found a candidate record, but details such as the authors or year differ from yours. Expand the result and compare it with the database record to confirm it is the same work; if it is, correct your reference.

How are credits charged?

Every 4 references cost 1 credit, and fewer than 4 still cost 1.

Which languages and styles are supported?

References in English, Chinese and other languages, in APA, MLA, GB/T 7714, Vancouver and other common styles.

How many references can I check at once?

Up to 80 per check, one per line. Split longer lists into several checks.
